Introduced in 1958, the Chevrolet Impala is one of the most recognized cars in the world. At one time, the Impala was the highest selling car model in North America, selling 1,046,514 units in 1965, a record it still holds today for most individual models sold in one year.
The third generation, built between 1961 and 1864, was redesigned to have a slimmer, boxier body frame. Chevy marketed the Impala’s new features as “velvet soft and whisper quiet,” characteristics that were attributed to four large coil springs that absorbed sound and dampened vibrations. Chevrolet also made efforts to reduce consumer maintenance costs by implementing inner front fenders to shield it from rust along with a coated muffler to help protect against corrosion. 1962 was also the first year that the all-transistor deluxe push button radio was offered as an additional feature option.
The model depicted here is a full restomod, meaning it has been restored to its classic look but modified with modern performance parts and accessories. This ’62 Impala has been equipped with an LS-3 engine capable of exerting 567 horsepower and 480 lbs. of torque. It has also been enhanced by a 4L60E transmission, Ridetech front and rear suspension, stainless exhaust, and a Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.70 ratio alongside a long list of additional modifications.
Revived in 2000 after a 15-year production hiatus, the Chevy Impala still finds its way towards the top of the highest selling car statistics in today’s marketplace. As a result, these classic generation models have been increasingly difficult to come by.
